Write Your Novel (without getting stuck)

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

Is writing that great American novel still on your bucket list? We are here to help. This course shows you how to produce a finished novel, one step at a time. By first paying attention to the basics of character development, scene creation and sticking to the plot, the novel is constructed scene-by-scene and chapter-by-chapter.

Most importantly, you'll avoid the biggest mistake - jumping in and starting on page one with no idea how your story will play out or end. Instead, you'll first know your protagonist and antagonist, all your minor characters, the main conflicts and actions of the story and what point or moral your story is trying to bring out. Then, your story will flow.

Michael Canavan, a local author of two novels, a collection of short stories and nearly a dozen non-fiction books, will guide you through the pitfalls of writing and help you get started to making it to the best seller list. Michael has taught creative writing in New England and New York and educated at Parsons and at Lehman College, Bronx, NY.

Published works include:
Books: Fiction: Three Days With Mary (and other stories); The Nature of the Beast.
Books: Non-fiction: What Does It Mean to Me?; Social Skills Comics - Conversation Skills in School; Social Skills Comics - Handling Anxiety In School, Coping With Divorce - Men, Women, Children; Finding Work After Military Life.
