The goal of these programs is to provide an opportunity to become acquainted with the skills and techniques necessary to play the game of basketball. Participation, skill development, sportsmanship and fun will be emphasized over competition.
Teams are selected by a rotating draft of the coaches to be as evenly matched as possible. Requests to be on a particular team, with a certain coach or to be on the same team as someone else will NOT be honored.
Fee of $200 per player, which includes their basketball shirt. If registering after November 17, 2017, the registration fee is $235. Third child in family pays half price. The fee covers most costs necessary to operate the league [basketball shirt, gym supervision, referees, custodians, awards, equipment, etc.]. Registration deadline to participate in the program is December 8, 2017.
All schedules subject to change based upon registration numbers.
The evaluation sessions are for team placement only. Player evaluation dates are posted down below.
Please arrive 15 minutes early WITH YOUR EVALUATION NUMBER ALREADY ATTACHED TO YOUR T-SHIRT. Player evaluation numbers will be emailed November 9 and will NOT be provided on the day of evaluations. Anyone who does not attend evaluations will be placed on a team by the league director.
ANYONE WHO REGISTERS AFTER NOVEMBER 7 DOES NOT PARTICIPATE IN PLAYER EVALUATIONS AND WILL BE PLACED ON A TEAM BY THE LEAGUE DIRECTOR.
GAME TIMES WILL NOT BE DECIDED UNTIL AFTER FINAL REGISTRATION NUMBERS ARE DETERMINED.
All registration is based on grade.
All leagues will play a nine or ten game season, generally running late November through the end of March.
There is no league play on any day school is not in session.
Place programs in cart and follow instructions all the way thru. You can either pay online or create a registration form and pay by check. If paying by check you must include your driver’s license number or your registration will be returned. Once we receive your check, we apply it to your online registration form. No one is registered until payment is received and applied to your online registration form. If you do not create an online registration form and come to our office for us to create one for you, an additional $10 fee will be assessed.
Requests must be submitted in writing. They will be prorated and $10 processing fee is withheld from each program withdrawal. The balance will be applied to your household account to use for a future program. If the refund is due to medical reasons, a full refund will be issued as long as your request is accompanied by a doctor’s note.
The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to change schedules/locations as necessary and cancel programs due to insufficient registration or lack of instructor(s).
Adults are needed to coach the teams (not high school league). Requests to coach with another parent of a participant cannot be honored. The league director will select head coaches from those who apply.

Girls Grade 5/6
As we have mentioned in an earlier email, we have been working in conjunction with Newtown Parks and Recreation to give all registrants the opportunity to play basketball this season. Our efforts have been successful in that the girls currently registered will be joined to form one team and play as a unit in the Newtown Youth Basketball program as the Monroe entry.
Games will be played on Saturday mornings at 9:00, 10:15 or 11:30 at the REED Intermediate School on the grounds of Fairfield Hills. We were not able to schedule games here in Monroe but all practices will be scheduled here in town at St Jude school building. We are in need of a coach for the team as games are scheduled to begin December 2. Practices can be arranged as soon as a coach has been selected.
Thank you for your patience and willingness to make the program viable.
Girls Grade 7/8

Games in the program will be played at Jockey Hollow School at 10:00 on Saturday mornings for the first 6 weeks. The balance of the schedule will be announced during that time.
