Autumn Passage

A Fall Foliage Family Hike to the Overlook in Webb Mountain Park has been planned for Oct. 18.

The outing is co-sponsored by the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department, Monroe Land Trust and Tree Conservancy, Monroe Conservation and Water Resources Commission and Monroe Green Committee.

A fall bulb planting demonstration precedes the hike. David Solek, Monroe’s park ranger and tree warden, is the trail leader.

Hikers are asked to meet in the parking lot in the park for a 2pm departure. No advance registration is required. The route follows the park’s Red Trail to the Overlook, or Goat Rock as it is also called, over sloped terrain to a 400-foot elevation affording a panoramic view of the Housatonic River Valley below Stevenson Dam.

The hike covers about a mile and is classified as suitable for adults and school-age children.
