Computer Explorers

TECHSTARS by Computertots/Computer Explorers are a series of technology classes designed to facilitate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathmatics) learning. Our classes provide a hands-on educational setting to make learning FUN!

Animation Moviemaker - Clay and animation, what a perfect combination! Working in teams, students do it all, from story creation to making the characters with clay and building the sets. As they learn the production process they will use DIGITAL CAMERA and COMPUTER SOFTWARE to animate, record, download, assemble and edit their own movies.

Lego Carnival - Lego Mindstorms provides wonderful hands-on opportunities for the students to experiment and learn about the fundamentals of robotics, construction and computer programming. We will be bilding RCX Robotics models commonly found in Carnival such as bumper cars and merry-go-round and using computer software to bring the models alive!

Lego Fungineering - Young budding engineers love this "hands-on, minds-on" program. Concepts of simple machines such as gears, pulleys, levers and wheels are introduced through a series of activity-card LEGO building projects. With the use of a motor and electrical controls, the models come alive right before their eyes!

Video Animation Gaming - Students will be using the software program "Scratch" developed by MIT Media Institute to create animation, music videos, Pac Man like video games and more. Creations fromt his class along with a copy of this software will be sent home so they can continue to have fun.

Rocketeers - Building projects may include paper airplanes, balloon cars, stomp rockets and more. These hands-on projects provide students opportunities to experiment with the basics of aeronautics such as thrust and drag, lift and weight. They will have a BLAST! Please apply sunscreen before class as we may be outside launching rockets.

Robotics Soccer - With the LegoWeDo Robotics System, young children can build and program their own robotic creations. Designed by the experts at MIT, this unique system teaches children about simple machines, engineering, computer programming and so much more. We will be building a robotic soccer team complete with cheering fans.

Registration
Place program(s) in cart and follow instructions all the way thru – you have just created an online registration form. Unfortunately we are not able to accept online payment. You can fill out a credit card authorization form (CLICK CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATION FORM BELOW IN ADDITIONAL FILES) and email to kcunningham@monroect.org. If you want to pay by check you can mail or bring to our department. You must include the driver’s license number of the person writing the check or your check will be returned. Once we receive payment, we apply to your online registration form. No one is registered for a program until payment is received and applied to your online registration form. If you do not create an online registration form and come to our office for us to create one for you, an additional $10 fee will be assessed.

Refunds
Refunds must be submitted in writing. They will be prorated and $10 processing fee is withheld from each refund. If the refund is due to medical reasons, a full refund will be issued as long as your request is accompanied by a doctor’s note.
